Introduction to mushroom cultivation – North Perth
North Perth Community Garden
Join The FunGuy WA @ North Perth Community Garden on the exciting journey of growing gourmet mushrooms.
Mushrooms make a perfect urban crop as they can be grown inside and outside, stacked in shelves for minimum space footprint, so no matter if you live in a big rural property or in a tiny apartment, you can grow mushrooms! They are incredibly fast growing, on some species you’ll be harvesting your first crop within 3 to 4 weeks from the time you prepared your block.
We’ll overview the basics of gourmet mushroom cultivation then make our very own mushroom block on the day. Each attendee will also take home material to make at least another 10 mushroom blocks at home, putting into test what you just learned and starting your own journey into mushroom cultivation.
The workshop is wrapped up by a mushroom canape tasting where you’ll have the chance to taste differences in flavour and textures and ask your own questions.
Due to their natural fast growing rate, mushrooms make a perfect gift to kids, to get them engaged in trying fresh and nutritious food that they can grow themselves or people seeking the freshest crop possible, harvest directly from your kitchen bench and to your pan.
There’s no need to invest in expensive lab equipment to grow gourmet mushrooms, you’ll learn techniques that involve low investment, using common utensils that work! We’ve done the hard work of many trial and errors with materials easily found in WA, studied countless hours to compile the material for this workshop, so you can hit the ground “growing”.
Each mushroom block retails from $30 to $40. By learning how to make them at a fraction of retail price, mushrooms can become an affordable gift or affordable and nutritious food addition to your diet.
